What is PCOD?

Polycystic ovarian disease (PCOD) is a condition where immature follicles take the form of small fluid cysts and stick to the walls of ovaries. Generally, in women, ovulation takes place every month around 11-14 days after their menstruation. During this ovulation process, one matured egg will be released from one of the ovaries. This way, one egg will be released from either of the ovaries (from right or left ovary) and it gets ready for fertilization. Whereas, in women with PCOD this process will get disturbed i.e. the egg will not get ready to release. These immature eggs take the form of small fluid cysts and stick on to the walls of ovaries. If these cysts develop on both the left and right ovary then this condition is referred to as Bilateral PCOD.
